Three tapes were released, with a total viewing time is nine hours, to highlight the athletic events of this championship. All nine days of the championships are covered with the following athletes bringing home the gold in the running events:

Men: Donovan Bailey, Michael Johnson (200 and 400 meters), Wilson Kipketer, Noureddine Morceli (his third 1500 meter title), Ismael Kirui, Haile Gebrselassie, Martín Fiz, Moses Kiptanui (winning the steeplechase for the third straight time), Allen Johnson (his first of four HH titles), Derrick Adkins, and Dan O’Brien winning his last title.

Women: Gwen Torrence, Merlene Ottey, Marie-José Pérec, Ana Fidelia Quirot , Hassiba Boulmerka, Sonia O’Sullivan (in the 5000 meters as the 3000 was discontinued for this distance), Fernanda Ribeiro, Manuela Machado, Gail Devers, Kim Batten, and Ghada Shouaa.
